North 17th Street Light Grid

This project was a ten day exercise in creating a design that was "Eco-spectacular".  Context was to be ignored so that ideas could be generated without restraint with the word CYBORG and abstract images driving decision making.  Programing was to be introduced afterwards once a spectacle was created.

The Project is essentially a flat plane in which designated areas have been "dug out", each filled with a different type of ecosystem.  During the day these subterranean gardens, their vibrant colors and textures viewed from both above and within, becomes a "natural" spectacle.

Once night falls, the flat plane above that was once secondary becomes a different kind of spectacle, one that is mechanical and man-made.  The glow of the light grid distorts the vastness of the site and introduces a very different spacial experience than that of the day, demarcating new areas for occupation.
